Treasured by Indigenous Peoples and coveted by explorers and travelers, hot springs played a vital role in the establishment of Canada’s first national park and National Parks system. These thermal waters and iconic vistas have attracted visitors to Banff National Park since 1886, and Miette and Radium Hot Spring since the 1920s. For over a century, visitors have traveled here to “take the waters” for their believed therapeutic properties.
